The UAE Ministry of Higher Education opens Spring 2026 scholarship applications for Emirati students, with eligibility, deadlines, and global university criteria.
Ministry Announces Spring 2026 Scholarship Intake
The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has officially announced the applications of the Spring 2026 Academic Scholarship Program. The program will target the Emirati high-achieving students in their undergraduate and postgraduate programs in international universities. Applications will be accepted as long as November 7, and documents are accepted until November 21, and final results are announced November 28.
Eligibility and General Requirements
There are 12 essential eligibility requirements that the applicants have to satisfy in order to be eligible to receive the scholarship. These are the UAE nationhood, full-time study in a qualified university, and adherence to the requirements of the academic degree. The candidates are also required to pass through interviews and competency tests and make sure that all the past qualifications are attested and equivalised.
Additional Terms and Conditions
New conditions are that male applicants have to demonstrate evidence of national service exemption, deferment, or accomplishment. The candidates will sign a statement of pledge to the rules of scholarship and not be awarded any other full scholarship elsewhere, either locally or abroad. The former scholarship recipients for the same degree or lower degree or those whose scholarship was revoked, are not eligible.
Academic and Admission Requirements
The Ministry pointed out that the admission letters should explicitly state the field of study selected and have a direct program linkage to the university site. Letters that fail these criteria – or that contain preparatory, language or dual-degree programs – will be rejected. The program is also eligible for distance learning, executive MBAs, and continuing education courses.
Approved University and Program Rankings
The programs that are required to be eligible should be those of universities that are ranked in the top 50 in the world in the major that is selected or even the top 100 universities in the United States or Australia. Other countries have the same requirement as to the top 200-ranked universities and, in the case of non-English speaking countries, in top 300-ranked. The benchmarks will make sure that students enroll in institutions that have been ranked as excellent and research-influential.
Selection and Acceptance Process
Each year the Ministry receives thousands of applications however, just a good portion (approximately 10 percent) of the applicants are awarded scholarships. Among the number of submissions of about 3,000 annually, only a number of hundreds of students are sponsored to study in foreign countries. This is a very competitive program that indicates the commitment of the UAE to develop and promote its academic excellence and worldwide competitiveness.
Legacy and National Impact
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Mualla, the voice of the Ministry, called Academic Scholarship Program one of the oldest and most prestigious programs in the UAE. Although it was initially meant to increase access to education in the times when local schools could not serve the population, it is now concerned with global excellence and leadership. Today, it has 592 students in 115 top universities in 22 countries, and 187 of them will graduate in the 20242025 academic year.
Building the Nation’s Future Through Education
Dr. Al Mualla highlighted that returning scholars are important in enhancing the development objectives of the UAE. According to him, this program started with the conception of the Union and it keeps on developing extending the preparation of the brightest minds of our country to compete in the international arena and be able to add to the national development.
