SNGPL will halt gas from Sat, Nov 8 (9:30 p.m.) to Sun, Nov 9 (10:00 a.m.) in Sectors E‑7, E‑8, E‑9, E‑10 and F‑8 for pipeline maintenance at Shaheen Chowk.
Timing, Areas and Reason
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has declared the temporary halting of gas delivery in the regions of Islamabad to carry out some repairs on the primary pipeline in Shaheen Chowk, E-9. The break will last between 9:30 p. m. Saturday, November 8, and 10:00 a.m. Sunday, November 9.
Sectors E-7, E-8, E-9, E-10 and F-8 are the ones affected. According to SNGPL, the exercise is among the routine system upkeep to ensure that pressure remains at par and operations are free of danger throughout the capital.

What Residents Should Do Before the Outage
Prepare cooking and water heating requirements. By pre-heating/storing hot water early in the evening, you will achieve this should you use gas to geysers. Have electric kettles or induction plates available where possible and charge UPS or backup power. The apartment managers can have the desire to communicate to residents via building groups and lift boards.
Turn off burners and turn gas knobs to OFF just before 9.30 pm. This is in order to prevent unlit gas flow upon supply re-entry. Assuming your house has a gas generator or tandoor, plan out some free time with it and properly ventilate it.
Safety Checks When Supply Resumes
Open the windows of the kitchen and make sure the air moves when gas is being restored. Begin by turning on one burner at a time and ensure that there are blue flames. Do not keep on trying to ignite it, allow a few seconds between attempts. When you smell of gas or hear the hiss, then put it off and open doors and windows and avoid switching electrical appliances on or off. Ask your building manager or SNGPL helpline on how.
Turn on re-lights geysers and space heaters in a manner that is very careful and cautious. In case of old or pilot based heaters, long lighter should be used and face and hands should not be within the burning space.
Guidance for Commercial Users
The affected sectors such as restaurants, bakeries, and hostels should make changes to timings of the services or menus to minimize the services that rely on gas preparation during the period of outage. Think about pre-heating food to be reheated in the electric equipment, and brief employees on safe shutdown and start-up. In case you run tandoors or busy kitchens, place conspicuous notices to the customers regarding limited services and recovery time on Sunday morning.
Staying Informed and Reporting Issues
Any change in timing can be monitored by the residents through official channels of SNGPL and updates by the local authorities. Associations of building might offer restoration assurances in neighborhood organizations after stabilising of pressure. In case your line does not restart as usual after 10:00 a. m. have your meter number and street address ready when you call the helpline to ensure that teams can triage more quickly. Do not do it yourself- gas fittings should be done by authorised technicians.
SNGPL said that it would make up for the inconvenience and that crews would be working to complete the work quickly to cause minimal inconvenience.
Bottom line: the Nov 89 overnight shutdown is just a maintenance measure. Using some safety measures pre and post window, the E-7, E-8, E-9, E-10 and F-8 households and small businesses can remain safe until the restoration of service.
