The Sindh government has announced a Pink Taxi service for women to provide safe, reliable transport, building on earlier initiatives like Pink Buses and free electric scooters in Karachi.
Pink Taxi Service Announced
The Sindh government has already announced a special Pink Taxi service exclusively for female commuters. The announcement was made by Pakistan People’s Party Chairman (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in a Karachi ceremony. The project will enhance safe, secure, and convenient traveling amongst women, particularly students and working professionals.
Following Pink Transport Initiatives
The new scheme is a continuation of Sindh’s previous PR initiatives in the transport sector, such as the implementation of e-buses and the effective Pink Bus service in Karachi. Introducing women-only programs has enabled Sindh to become the first province in Pakistan to lead the way in developing solutions to public transportation, specifically designed to serve women.
According to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, such programs recall the province’s resolve to address issues affecting women in commuting, as well as to make them experience the provision of education and workplaces, among other necessities, much more easily and securely.
Distribution of Free Pink Scooters
In Karachi, Bilawal himself handed out keys to free electric Pink Scooters to women who participated in the Karachi ceremony. He discussed that the scooter initiative will offer female students and employees cheap, convenient, and eco-friendly mobility options. The program aims to reduce the number of women who travel in a day and help them become self-reliant.
Farmers’ Support Under the Benazir Hari Card.
On the same week, the Sindh government also initiated the Benazir Income Support Card to help small farmers who had been affected by the floods. This program highlights the development priorities of the entire province, which combines urban mobility with rural financial assistance.
Women’s Empowerment as a Development Priority
The key to the development of Sindh, as pointed out by Bilawal, is the empowerment of women. He again emphasized that Pakistan would not be able to develop in its education, economic and social areas in the absence of the involvement of women. The provincial government serves as a role model in investing in gender-based transportation and support schemes.
Conclusion
The Pink Taxi service is the next step in the strategy to develop an inclusive, safe, and modern transport infrastructure in Sindh. The initiative, in collaboration with Pink buses, Pink scooters, and financial aid programs, demonstrates the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment and sustainable development. It is projected that the scheme will significantly improve the lives of thousands of women commuters in the province when it is rolled out.
