SECP’s new system links eZfile with digital banks so newly registered companies can open corporate accounts the same day and start operating faster.
What Has Changed for New Companies?
Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has also come up with quicker means of startups and small businesses establishing corporate bank accounts. With a new system, companies are able to acquire an account within the same day that they have registered. This eliminates the waiting time that would otherwise be incurred by the back and forwards document checks and various requirements at each bank. The idea is straight forward: assist new businesses in starting their operations in a short period of time, with less visits and reduced paperwork.
Who Is Involved and How It Works
SECP has entered into an MOU with three completely digital banking platforms, namely, Mobilink Microfinance bank, Easypaisa bank and Raqami Islamic digital bank. These banks are linked with eZfile system of SECP via secure APIs. Upon company incorporation, its essentials may be exchanged electronically with a partner bank accelerating KYC and account formation. SECP has also implemented standard form of board resolution in which the banks do not request to use different templates. This is a harmonised checklist that will eliminate confusion between founders and bank teams.
Why It Is Important to Startups and SMEs
A fast corporate account is needed to facilitate invoices, payroll and vendors payments. Previously, it took days or weeks to complete the account opening process, which slackened sales and cash flow of the founders. In case of same-day accounts, a software house, an online shop or a services start up can send out invoices once it is registered. This will help in maintaining a record-keeping since the beginning and promote an increase in the number of businesses that operate in the formal sector. Digital onboarding will also save the banks money and will minimize mistakes that occur during the entry of data manually.
Less Friction, More Trust
According to the officials, the initiative will streamline compliance hurdles due to standardisation of documents and cutting down on the number of checks. Since information passes over the secure APIs, the banks are able to check the details of the companies within a short time and maintain a full audit trail. The enhancement is in line with wider Paper to Platform shift by SECP to digital processes. The regulator wants to enhance transparency, reduce red tape and improve investor and customer confidence by transferring corporate services on to the internet. Chairperson SECP Akif Saeed reported that they are planning to move all the corporate processes to the digital arena to ensure that new firms are not subjected to bureaucratic stalling.
What to Do If You Are Incorporating Now
Be sure to ask about the same-day corporate account option of the three partner banks when you are registering a new company. A simple set of documents (CNICs of directors, company incorporation certificate, NTN, standard board resolution (SECP format) and proof of address) should be ready in case of request. Have soft copies on hand to be able to upload fast. Alternatively, even when you are already with another bank, you can still compare fees, online functionalities, and opportunities such as bulk payments or payroll. SECP also mentioned that collaboration with digital banks can be extended to cover regulated savings and investment products that are sold within bank apps and which can assist small businesses in managing cash effectively and remain in compliance.
