Samsung Display has revealed a 77-inch QD-OLED TV panel with up to 4,500 nits peak brightness, AI picture optimisation and next-gen OLED concepts ahead of CES 2026.
4,500-Nit QD-OLED Panel Sets New Brightness Record
Samsung Display has introduced a new 77-inch QD-OLED TV panel that it is calling the world’s brightest self-emissive display. Unveiled ahead of CES 2026, the panel can reach up to an impressive 4,500 nits of peak brightness, putting it well above most current premium TVs on the market.
The company says the new panel achieves this extreme brightness by combining the peak luminance of each red, green and blue subpixel, instead of relying on a white subpixel as seen in some other OLED technologies. By avoiding a white booster layer, Samsung aims to maintain stronger colour purity while also delivering higher perceived brightness in HDR movies, games and sports content.
How QD-OLED Tech Targets Better Colours and Contrast
Quantum Dot OLED, or QD-OLED, combines self-emissive OLED with quantum dot colour conversion to improve colour volume and viewing angles. In the new 77-inch panel, each pixel emits blue light, which then passes through quantum dots to generate red and green light. This setup helps the TV maintain rich, saturated colours even at very high brightness levels.
Samsung Display claims that using pure RGB emission instead of white subpixels allows the panel to preserve detail in bright scenes while keeping dark areas deep and inky. For viewers, that should translate into more impactful HDR highlights, better contrast and a more cinematic experience, especially in living rooms with mixed or bright lighting.
AI-Powered Picture Optimisation for 2026 OLED TVs
The new QD-OLED panel also supports AI-based image optimisation. TVs based on this panel will be able to adjust picture quality automatically depending on the type of content and the viewing environment. For example, the TV could boost brightness and sharpness for daytime viewing, then switch to a more relaxed, cinema-style preset at night.
Samsung Display says the 77-inch QD-OLED panel will feature in high-end OLED TV models launching in 2026. These sets are expected to target home cinema fans and gamers who want the combination of very high peak brightness, deep blacks and strong motion handling in a premium design.
AI OLED Bots, Turntables and Cassette Speakers at CES 2026
Alongside the new TV panel, Samsung Display is showcasing several AI-powered OLED concept products at CES 2026. One of the most eye-catching is the AI OLED Bot, a small robot with a 13.4-inch OLED display designed to work as a teaching assistant. It can move around, display educational content and potentially interact with users in classrooms or homes.
The company is also showing the AI OLED Turntable and AI OLED Cassette, both speaker systems featuring circular OLED panels. These devices can recommend music and display visual content in real time, blending audio playback with animated graphics, cover art or mood-based visuals to create a more immersive listening experience.
Durability Tests Highlight Tough Foldable OLED Panels
To address concerns about longevity, Samsung Display has set up a dedicated durability zone at its CES booth. In one demonstration, a robotic arm repeatedly throws basketballs at a wall of 18 foldable OLED panels mounted on a board. Despite multiple impacts, the displays remain functional, showcasing their ability to handle rough treatment.
Another test involves dropping steel balls onto foldable OLED panels to compare their durability with other display technologies. These demonstrations are intended to reassure consumers and manufacturers that foldable screens can withstand everyday knocks, bumps and accidental drops more reliably than many people expect.
XR and Automotive Displays Point to Future Use Cases
Beyond TVs and concept gadgets, Samsung Display is also presenting new OLED ideas for cars and extended reality devices. In the automotive segment, the company has developed cockpit display concepts such as an 18.1-inch flexible L-shaped centre display, a hidden passenger screen and OLED tail lamps that can display live road alerts to vehicles behind.
For XR, Samsung Display is showing off its RGB OLEDoS microdisplay, which packs an impressive 5,000 pixels per inch into a small 1.4-inch panel. The microdisplay has been integrated into a headset demo to highlight its use for future AR and VR devices, where very high resolution is needed to reduce pixelation and improve immersion. All of these technologies, including the record-bright QD-OLED TV panel, are being showcased at CES 2026, taking place from January 6 to January 9 in Las Vegas.
