Strategic and Budget Allocation
The federal government has been able to allocate Rs 15 billion in the 202526 budget on the long-delayed Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) project, and it has been a landmark decision. This is consideredsignificant step in building national connectivity and sealing the last missing link in in Pakistan’sotorway network.
It is estimated that the M-6 motorway will have a significant influence on enhancing economic integration, accessibility in the region, and trade between the provinces. Upon completion, the highway will be the last missing link in the north-south corridor, completing the route between Karachi and Peshawar.
The International Financing and Project Execution
Abdul Aleem Khan, Federal Minister for Communication, confirmed officially that work on the M-6 will start by the end of the year. The project has also been subdivided into five sections to simplify operations and complete it on time.
He also sstatedd thatd by the the Islamic Development B has expressed interest in co-financing the projectank (IDB). An authoritative decision on the IDB loan will be made in September 2025, following the bank’s next board meeting. The possibility of collaboration with IDB is perceived as good news for the financial viability of the mega infrastructure project.

Commenting on the recent statements of the Sindh chief minister, Abdul Aleem Khan, made it clear that he will only be held accountable for the growth that has taken place in the last year, and that he is not rresponsible forthe llack of progress comparedto the old regimes. He did not refer to any political critic, ,is,m yet stressed that the current administration was determined to move the project.
It was also emphasized during the meeting that, itohave access to the national motorway network, Karachi Port needed to establish a connection, at least in terms of strategy. In his estimates, in the absence of this key connection, the prospects of the given motorway network in support of import, export, and further trade are not fully realized. He reiterated that it is crucial to complete the M-6 to leverage Pakistan’s national infrastructure’s economic potential fully.
