PHF unveiled a reform roadmap with 90-day club verification, elections in 6–9 months, school and university trials, new sponsors, and a 120-day plan.
Why PHF Is Rolling Out Reforms Now
The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced a comprehensive reform plan after a meeting of its adhoc committee. PHF says the measures aim to improve organisational processes and strengthen player development pathways at domestic and national levels.
The plan combines governance clean-up, talent development, commercial support, and infrastructure steps. Instead of waiting for one “big fix,” PHF is trying to move multiple tracks forward at the same time, with a defined timeline for early actions.
Club Verification, Voting Units and Election Timeline
PHF says it will begin scrutiny and verification of affiliated hockey clubs within 90 days. The review will assess eligibility, activity, and compliance with membership requirements, and will include legal and financial evaluations to improve transparency.
After the process is completed, a list of verified voting units will be made public. Elections are expected within six to nine months under an independently monitored framework. This sequencing matters because it first clarifies who can vote and then moves to elections based on that verified list.
If handled fairly, the verification step can reduce disputes and strengthen governance credibility. That is why publication of verified units and independent monitoring will be closely watched by stakeholders.
New Player Pathway: School Trials, Digital Profiles and Universities
On development, PHF announced school-level trials in coordination with the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen. The aim is to widen the talent base and make scouting more structured.
PHF will also introduce a digital profiling system to maintain performance records and track player progress over time. A solid database can support merit-based selection and reduce reliance on informal recommendations.
In addition, the Higher Education Commission will support an inter-university hockey competition. PHF says this will create a clearer pathway for players to move from education-level teams to national contention, provided the competitions run regularly with transparent selection criteria.
Sponsorships, Infrastructure Upgrades and Athlete Support
PHF says it has secured sponsorship backing from corporate partners. PTCL will be the lead sponsor of the National Hockey League, with additional support from Jazz. The federation says these partnerships will support league operations, infrastructure needs, and digital engagement to strengthen domestic competition.
On facilities, PHF is working to acquire reusable AstroTurf from abroad for installation at selected locations. Better playing surfaces can improve training quality and match standards, especially if placed where competitions can be held consistently.
PHF also wants to revive departmental hockey by encouraging departments to form teams and participate in tournaments. On athlete welfare, the federation announced a partnership with Shifa International Hospital to provide medical services for national players.
Administrative Restructure and the 120-Day Plan
PHF will reorganise into specialised departments covering finance, marketing, athlete welfare, coaching, and international coordination, with performance monitoring systems for accountability.
Olympians Islahuddin Siddiqui, Hassan Sardar and Samiullah will assist on technical matters such as coaching selection, talent identification, and team preparation. PHF also says former players and committee members will support talent programs and club verification efforts.
PHF’s 120-day implementation plan lists early actions: club verification, coordination with education bodies, sponsor engagement, and identifying a foreign coach. The real test will be timely delivery and regular, transparent progress updates.
