New Buzz to Improve the Aesthetics and Greenery of the Urban Areas
The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has taken the initiative to launch a grand project beautifying Murree Road in Rawalpindi, aiming to make the city more appealing, greener, and cleaner with improved air quality. The project entails a full-fledged restructuring and beautification of the metro stretch between Faizabad and Saddar.
Project Scope and Project Progress
The initiative aims to modernize the metro bus pillars and the surrounding area, with an estimated total cost of Rs. 160 million. To date, 22 out of 226 metro pillars have been renovated, and the stretch up to Chandani Chowk is expected to be completed by the end of June. The refurbishment is completed using Karachi Sand, which is expected to last for more than ten years.
Lightings, Greeneries and Civic Facilities
To bring nighttime beauty to the city, beauty lighting will be added to the remodeled metro strip using warm lights. Moreover, the metro pillars, which are currently overshadowed by unattractive hoardings, are being removed, and there is a plan to make the green belts along the route more visually appealing. Director General of PHA Ahmed Hassan Ranjha pointed out that beautification efforts would also focus on the exit leading to Rawalpindi in Islamabad, as well as the surrounding areas.
Environmental Goals and Future Projects
In anticipation of the coming monetary year, the PHA will undertake to publish Quranic verses on selected city pillars and build a model featuring Durood Sharif at Rawal Road. Aiming to increase green cover, 75,000 saplings will be planted along the Rawalpindi Ring Road, and the Gorakhpur Nursery will be expanded to complement this initiative. The authority is also in full swing, developing various recreational and environmental beautification projects within Murree and Rawalpindi as a step towards a healthier and more beautiful urban scenery.
