In some welcome news for communities facing escalating cost-of-living pressures, the price at the bowser is expected to remain stable for at least the next fortnight following a federal government update. The petrol rate has been maintained at Rs. 252.63 per liter, but a reduction has been made in the high-speed diesel (HSD) rate, which now stands at Rs. 254.64 per liter, following a cut of Rs. 2.
The Finance Division released this notification. It also stated that kerosene and light diesel oil prices had been reduced. Kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs. 5.04 per liter, now available at Rs. 164.65 per liter. The rate of Light diesel oil has been cut by Rs. 5.33 per liter, now selling at Rs. 150.65 per liter.
These decisions follow a meeting of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), which discussed price structures and opted to offer some relief to refineries, oil marketing companies (OMCs), and consumers for the next fortnight. However, most people view a cap on the price of gasoline as only symbolic relief for their wallets.
For private vehicles used for personal purposes, motorcycles and small cars rely primarily on gasoline, particularly among middle- and lower-middle-class Indians. Its price is part of every household budget, every daily cost of commuting, and the operations of small businesses. Diesel is, however, preferred and used more frequently in large transport vehicles, such as buses, tractors, and trucks, for heavy transportation, including the transportation of goods.
Analysts say that the inflationary impact of high-speed diesel is pronounced due to its role in logistics and the movement of essential goods. The price of such food directly affects the cost of vegetables, rice, and other food items.
