Joint Venture Agreement Signed
At the 2nd China-Pakistan B2B Investment Conference in Beijing, the MAYCOM Group and the TECNO Group of Pakistan signed a joint venture agreement that will establish a fishmeal processing plant in Gwadar Port, valued at $ 12 million. The deal also brings on board trade initiatives like an initial purchase of 10,000 tonnes of Pakistani sesame.
Structure of the Partnership
In the agreement, TECNO will have a majority interest in the venture and control the procurement and production of resources in Pakistan. MAYCOM will be supplying technological knowledge and sales management. CYCLON is also a third-party partner that will be involved in the project to facilitate operations and trade.
Fishmeal Production Targets
Sardines and other fish found in the Arabian Sea off Gwadar will be used in the plant to manufacture feed-grade fishmeal and fish oil. The products will be sold in major markets in southeastern China, primarily in the aquaculture sector. The project will be carried out in two stages, with Phase I requiring an investment of $4 million and an annual output of 15,000 tons.
Expansion of Bilateral Trade
The two firms aimed to enhance bilateral trade, in addition to improving fishmeal exports. Pakistan will export sesame, peanuts, cottonseed, and mineral products to China, while imports from China will include solar panels, energy storage systems, and other new energy products. This effort emphasizes the expanded collaboration in agriculture, energy, and resource development.
Company Profiles
MAYCOM Group is an import, processing, and trade enterprise specializing in agricultural products, minerals, and energy resources, with its headquarters located in Central Asia and Russia, specifically in Xinjiang. This time, the group was represented by the then-president Gao Zhigang at the summit. TECNO Group, led by CEO Aamir Allawala, is a prominent Pakistani conglomerate with diversified interests in mobile phones, solar energy, auto glass, and agriculture.
Site Inspections and Long-Term Vision
The two parties were fully aware of the sites at the time of the agreement and were optimistic about the sustainability of the partnership in the long term. The partnership highlights the development of economic relationships between China and Pakistan, as Gwadar is again at the centre of strategic investment in trade, aquaculture, and renewable energy.
Conclusion
The $12 million fishmeal plant at Gwadar is a significant move in the Pak-China collaboration that combines resource utilization with export expansion. Both countries are committed to building a sustainable and win-win economic relationship by diversifying to include aquaculture feed, agriculture exports, and a renewable energy supply chain.
