The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman, Rashid Mahmood Langrial, said on Thursday that the government intends to maintain taxes on solar panel imports as they are. In response to increasing talk about raising solar-related import taxes, he confirmed that the government is not considering any such proposal.
There were concerns from renewable energy groups and the community about the affordability of solar energy for the upcoming budget, so the finance ministry has provided its stand. A tax rise on solar solutions as Pakistan pushes for clean energy would likely affect the economy and environment in many sectors.
According to Chairman Langrial, the government remains committed to supporting renewable energy, and there are no changes to the rules governing the taxation of solar panels. The solar energy industry and environmentalists are pleased, as they believed new costs might make solar installation less accessible for U.S. households. Additionally, Lang announced a generous income tax rebate for teachers to help improve their lives. As of next year’s budget, teachers in Pakistan will receive a paper cent income tax rebate. These individuals receive a domicile benefit and either receive a refund or have their payable taxes adjusted according to the same rebate rules.
It has been universally acclaimed by schools and groups representing teachers, all of whom have long advocated that teachers earn better incentives. Hopefully, the rebate will help maintain people in public education roles and offer them financial relief.
The relief measures for educators are not the only ones that Langrial discussed. He also revealed that FB is collaborating with the IMF to provide broader assistance to people earning their income in the salaried sector. The government also holds ongoing talks to develop specific assistance programs for other sectors of the economy, as part of its commitment to fair fiscal policies.
The country is now planning its budget for next year, and the FBR has indicated that it will keep the economy stable while helping key sectors, such as social and developmental.
