Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has launched a new digital skills center for women in Peshawar, aimed at boosting technology training and economic empowerment under the D4WEE project.
Digital Skills at the Heart of Women’s Empowerment
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken another step towards women’s economic empowerment with the launch of a new, state-of-the-art multipurpose digital center at the Business Incubation Center in Peshawar. The facility has been set up under the Digitalization for Women Economic Empowerment (D4WEE) project, which focuses on giving women access to modern tools, training and opportunities in the digital economy.
For many women and female students, especially in urban and semi-urban parts of the province, this center will offer a rare chance to learn in a safe, well-equipped environment. Instead of relying only on traditional skills or informal work, they will be able to build digital literacy that is directly relevant to today’s job market.
KOICA Partnership Brings Modern Technology to Peshawar
The project is being implemented with financial support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). Thanks to this partnership, the new digital center has been fitted with advanced computers, networking equipment and other learning tools that match international standards.
At the inauguration ceremony, Eun Kyung Kang, KOICA’s Country Head, joined senior officials and local stakeholders to mark the opening of the facility. The presence of international partners alongside provincial authorities highlights how global cooperation can directly support local communities, particularly women seeking to improve their skills and income prospects.
Government Commits to Supporting Women in the Digital Economy
Commissioner of Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud, attended the ceremony as the chief guest. In his address, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering women through access to technology and targeted skills training. He stressed that meaningful economic empowerment depends not only on policy statements but also on practical initiatives that give women tools they can use in real life.
Mehsud praised KOICA for providing the digital equipment and facilities needed to run the center effectively. He also assured full support from the district government and local administration to ensure that the D4WEE project is implemented smoothly and continues to grow over time. This backing is expected to help with outreach, coordination and integration of the program with other local development initiatives.
Training 3,000 Women and Female Students in Digital Skills
The launch event was held under the theme “Empower Her,” reflecting the wider goals of the project. Under D4WEE, around 3,000 women and female students from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will receive training in digital skills. Depending on their background and needs, the courses may cover basic computer use, online communication, office productivity tools, freelancing, e-commerce or other technology-related subjects.
By targeting both students and women who are already part of the workforce or looking to re-enter it, the program aims to build a broader base of digital talent in the province. The hope is that some participants will go on to find jobs in the formal sector, while others may start small online businesses, offer freelance services or support their families through part-time digital work.
Helping Women Become Economically Self-Reliant
One of the main objectives of the new digital center is to help women become more economically self-reliant. In many households, women’s income is either limited or informal, and they may not have access to structured training that can upgrade their skills. By providing organised courses, mentoring and access to technology, the D4WEE project aims to close this gap.
Improved digital skills can open doors to a wide range of opportunities, from remote work and online learning to digital marketing, content creation and administrative support roles.
