The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced a major upgrade to one of Islamabad’s key roadways. The popular Srinagar Highway, which operates as a two-lane route in both directions, is set to receive a third lane. This expansion will cover the stretch from Jinnah Square (Serena Interchange) to Murree Road.
This decision comes in response to growing traffic congestion on the Srinagar Highway, especially during peak hours. With Islamabad’s population steadily increasing and more vehicles hitting the road, the existing two-lane system has become insufficient to handle daily traffic volumes. Adding a third lane aims to reduce bottlenecks and travel time for commuters significantly.
According to officials, construction work is expected to begin soon, with efforts focused on minimising disruption to current traffic. The plan includes lane expansion and necessary road infrastructure improvements, such as improved signage, drainage, and road markings to ensure safety.
Citizens and daily commuters have welcomed the move, hoping it will ease traffic jams that have long plagued this route. The Srinagar Highway is a critical link between major sectors of Islamabad and is a preferred route for residents, professionals, and government officials.
Urban planners and transport experts have also praised the development, stating that proactive infrastructure planning is key to managing urban growth. They also recommend that future developments include public transport integration to reduce dependency on private vehicles.
In conclusion, the third-lane addition to Srinagar Highway marks a progressive step in Islamabad’s urban development. If executed efficiently, it could set a positive precedent for future infrastructure projects across the city.
