Islamabad Traffic Police Crack Down on Motorcycle Lane Violations

Islamabad Traffic Police are enforcing motorcycle lane rules through fines and education, reporting up to a 95% drop in violations on major city roads.

Special Drive Targets Lane Discipline from January 1, 2026

The Islamabad Traffic Police have launched a special enforcement drive to tackle motorcycle lane violations on major roads in the federal capital. The campaign, which began on 1 January 2026, aims to improve lane discipline, reduce congestion and make daily commutes safer for all road users.

Instead of relying only on fines and legal action, the Islamabad Traffic Police are combining strict enforcement with on-the-spot awareness. Officers deployed on key routes are stopping riders who ignore designated motorcycle lanes, explaining the rules to them and highlighting how disciplined lane use helps prevent accidents and traffic jams.

Up to 95% Reduction in Lane Violations on Key Routes

According to officials, the results of the campaign have been encouraging. The Islamabad Traffic Police report that motorcycle lane violations have dropped by as much as 95 percent on important routes covered under the drive. Club Road and Srinagar Highway, two of the busiest arteries in the capital, have seen a particularly sharp decline in reported violations.

Officers say that better lane discipline has led to smoother traffic flow and reduced congestion during peak hours. When motorcyclists remain in their designated lanes, cars, buses and heavy vehicles can move more predictably, which cuts down on sudden braking, bottlenecks and risky overtaking. This, in turn, lowers the chances of collisions and improves overall road safety.

Enforcement Linked With Rider Education and Public Awareness

A key feature of the campaign is its focus on education rather than punishment alone. Official footage shared by the Islamabad Traffic Police shows officers stopping riders for lane violations, guiding them about proper lane usage and then allowing them to continue once they understand the rules.

In many cases, officers are seen explaining why motorcycle lanes exist, how they protect riders from larger vehicles and how lane discipline reduces confusion at intersections and U-turns. By engaging directly with riders at the roadside, the police hope to build long-term behavioural change instead of short-lived compliance driven only by fear of fines.

Public awareness messages shared through media and social platforms are also reinforcing the campaign’s core message: using the correct lane is not just a legal requirement but a basic safety practice for everyone on the road.

Recognition for Officers Showing Outstanding Performance

To motivate the force and acknowledge on-ground efforts, the Islamabad Traffic Police have formally recognised officers who performed exceptionally during the campaign. Chief Traffic Officer Captain Hamza Humayun recently attended a ceremony where he awarded certificates to top-performing personnel.

He praised their dedication, professionalism and positive attitude towards the public, noting that effective traffic management requires both firmness in enforcing laws and courtesy in dealing with commuters. The recognition is also meant to set a benchmark for others, encouraging all officers to maintain high standards while carrying out field duties.

Campaign to Continue for Safer, More Orderly Roads

The Islamabad Traffic Police have confirmed that the drive against motorcycle lane violations will continue. Future phases are expected to maintain a strong balance between enforcement and education, with officers instructed to stay visible on major roads and regularly monitor lane discipline.

Officials say the long-term goal is to embed a culture of safe driving and predictable lane use in the capital. If riders consistently respect motorcycle lanes, and other motorists respect their space on the road, the benefits will be felt in the form of fewer accidents, shorter travel times and less everyday frustration for commuters.

Residents are being urged to support the campaign by following lane markings, wearing helmets, obeying speed limits and helping spread awareness about safe riding habits. The Islamabad Traffic Police maintain that safer, more orderly roads are only possible when enforcement efforts are matched by responsible behaviour from all road users.
