Free WiFi to Transform Islamabad
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that free WiFi services will soon be available at 35 prime locations across Islamabad. The project is one of the many initiatives the government has undertaken under its vision to transform the federal capital, amidst the need to modernize it and provide its citizens with improved amenities. The selected sites include main markets, metro and electric feeder bus stations, and key public parks, allowing for internet access to be provided to residents and visitors.
Key Features of the Project
According to CDA officials, the project will be executed in collaboration with the National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC). The CDA technical team will provide full assistance in the implementation, and the NTC will be responsible for operating and maintaining the system. This strategy will make sure that the service is long-term sustainable and efficient.
The CDA Chairman insisted that an operation model and marketing should be established so that the service is self-sustainable. The revenue gained will be used for the upgradation and maintenance of the system. Governments will strive to maintain connectivity and ensure the quality delivery of services to citizens.
Digitizing Islamabad for Citizens
Chairman and Chief Commissioner of DA Muhammad Ali Randhawa reiterated the government’s vision to transform Islamabad into Pakistan’s first free WiFi city. He stated that all the resources would be invested in promoting state-of-the-art digital facilities to the residents. Once completed, this initiative will bring Islamabad to the same level as other world cities that have already provided free public WiFi in both commercial and recreational areas.
Convenience and Economic Benefits
Free WiFi in congested business areas and transport interchange points is likely to benefit scholars, business persons, and visitors. Citizens will be able to conduct online transactions more easily, access e-government services, and enjoy improved communication. Free internet will stimulate customer traffic and improve customer satisfaction, especially among businesses in the markets and shopping places.
Across the world, research findings indicate that public WiFi has a positive impact on digital inclusion, as it empowers more citizens to access the online economy. The free WiFi project is likely to yield similar encouraging results as in Islamabad because a free internet service can bridge the digital gap in Waking and stimulate the wider use of the internet there.
Meeting Attendees and Next Steps
The selection was made during an upper-level meeting at the CDA Head Office, which was presided over by Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Attendees included NTC Managing Director Major General (R) Ali Farhan, CDA Member Finance Tahir Naeem, Member Planning Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, and other senior officials. The meeting demonstrated that fast execution was crucial in bringing tangible change to citizens in the shortest time possible.
Conclusion
Yet another landmark in Islamabad’s march towards the digital world is the launch of free WiFi at 35 locations. With the introduction of technology into daily life, Islamabad is becoming more competitive with the rest of the world in terms of digital evolution, thanks to the CDA. When executed effectively, the initiative will benefit in terms of convenience, enhance business development, and make Islamabad a city with a strong reputation and technological capabilities.
