Islamabad will build a new five-star hotel next to the planned Islamabad Cricket Stadium, creating an integrated venue for international teams, officials, VIPs and cricket fans in the federal capital.

Stadium and Hotel Approved as a Joint Development Package

Islamabad is set for a major boost in sports and tourism infrastructure as plans move forward for a new five-star hotel to be built alongside the upcoming Islamabad Cricket Stadium. The project has been cleared as part of a wider development package aimed at turning the federal capital into a regular host for international cricket and high-profile events.

This was decided at a special meeting of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Headquarters, where Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was the chairman. The officials settled that the hotel and stadium should be designed and designed as one integrated project to ensure that the two facilities complement each other at the beginning.

In the meeting, the minister ordered the authorities to contract the services of internationally reputed firms to construct the hotel and requested CDA to provide information about the long-vacant commercial plots that would be appropriate in the project. Meanwhile, he advised that the design of the new stadium be concluded in 10 days so that work might be expedited.

Why Islamabad Needs a Hotel Next to the Stadium

The new hotel will be designed to cater directly to teams, match officials, broadcasters, sponsors and VIP guests when it comes to the major cricket events. By locating a full service five-star facility beside the stadium, the authorities will see to it that long security convoy within the city is minimized and that travelling time is minimized during the match days.

Currently, tours to teams and officials usually remain in central hotels in Islamabad and get to grounds under strict security measures, which may disrupt traffic and become an additional operational load of law enforcers. A hotel on site adjacent to the stadium will likely alleviate such issues and provide a safer and more regulated environment.

To players, coaches and other support staff, it also implies that training, recovery and media engagements are also easier because players are within walking distance of the venue. To organisers, it makes it easier to conduct big tournaments in Islamabad, which makes it a better destination when considering international fixtures in the future.

Key Features and Expected Facilities

Although the final designs are yet to be issued, the hotel is likely to have high-end guest rooms and suites, teams and officials secure floors, meeting and conference rooms, fitness and recovery rooms, and special media and event management teams sections.

Since the hotel will be located at the stadium side, it is likely to have direct or secured access routes to the stadium, with teams and VIPs being able to move between the two locations without necessarily using the public roads. This may be particularly significant when it is a night game and a high-security game.

The Islamabad Cricket Stadium in itself is being built as a high-tech facility. The board of Pakistan Cricket already issued a tender and Mohsin Naqvi pressured them to finalize the design of the structure as soon as possible and then started construction. The hotel and the stadium should collectively create a contemporary sports and entertainment center in the capital.

Boost for Tourism, Business and the Local Economy

In addition to cricket, the mixed stadium hotel proposal will enable tourism, business travel and local jobs. Even when the matches are not on, a five-star facility that is linked to a big venue will be able to accommodate conferences, corporate events, concerts and other big events.

The local people in terms of restaurants, transport and shopping stores might gain in terms of increased visitors and more so during international tournaments. The buildings and continued operations will also provide employment to engineers, technicians, the hotel staff, and various service providers within and outside Islamabad.

In the case of the city image, the presence of a modern cricket stadium and a nearby luxury hotel sends a message that Islamabad is prepared to receive guests around the globe and host a high stake sporting and business event in a professional environment.

What Happens Next for the Stadium and Hotel Plan

On short term basis, CDA has been mandated to find out and disclose information of appropriate commercial plots in the vicinity of the intended stadium location, in order to secure land where the hotel will be situated. Simultaneously, design consultants will be working on a plan of a stadium, which would comply with international standards of a cricket stadium and be related harmoniously with the hotel plan.

After finalization of designs and developers are identified, both the projects are supposed to proceed simultaneously. The officials have indicated that schedules will be strict because the government desires that in the years to come, Islamabad will be prepared to hold additional international matches.

When planned to be erected, the new cricket stadium and the adjacent five-star hotel may change the way big matches within the capital of Pakistan are hosted, reducing the security inconveniences, enhancing customer satisfaction, as well as providing guests with a world-class stadium to watch the game.
