Islamabad Police Deploy Drones to Crack Down on Traffic Violators
In a significant step toward smarter law enforcement, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) have launched a drone-based surveillance program on major city highways, issuing fines to over 300 drivers in the campaign’s first phase. This program, whose main purpose is to ensure adherence to traffic regulations, utilizes contemporary aerial surveillance to detect infractions and enhance overall road safety.
How Drone Surveillance Works for Traffic Enforcement
The ITP has been equipped with state-of-the-art drones, which are being used to manage traffic on the Expressway and Srinagar Highway, and will be available throughout the entire city. The violations detected by drones include lane discipline, illegal overtaking, overloading, and death-defying stunts like one-wheeling. Video recordings are transmitted to law enforcement in real-time, and they can impose fines on the spot and tow vehicles for serious violations.
Besides penalties, more than 350 park residents were aware of how they could use the road and traffic rules on the spot.

“The technology of drones is becoming quite effective at detecting violations in real-time and imposing prompt and transparent enforcement of them, Haider said.
