Introduction to encroachment operation
On the eve of Wednesday, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration mounted a massive drive on encroachments in the bustling Blue Area of the capital. The operation, led by Assistant Commissioner Maheen Hassan and working with the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA), was conducted to repossess public spaces and enforce municipal law.
Arrests and Action Taken
There were several illegal stalls and encroachments erected on the sides of commercial plazas and the main walking areas of the city, which were removed. Four retail stores were fined for placing merchandise in the pedestrian ways, thereby obstructing traffic and violating city ordinances. Four people operating unlicensed car wash services on public land were also arrested and handed over to the local police.
The Anti-Encroachment Strategy of the City. The district administration has plans to implement an anti-encroachment campaign in all sectors and markets of Islamabad. Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has also directed the assistant commissioners to conduct regular inspections to ensure that public places are unobstructed and people can move freely. This is an effort to reinvent urban infrastructure, revive pedestrian corridors, and prevent prohibited encroachment on government property.
Future Measures and Popularity
DMA officials confirmed that such drives would also carry out the same operations in other commercial centres, such as G-9 Market, F-10 Market, and Aabpara Market. I aimed at ensuring the original functionality and accessible areas. The government has requested people to collaborate by denouncing encroachments and helping to make the city cleaner and tidier.
