Everything is being upgraded and digitized in Islamabad’s public transportation for Eid al-Azha 2025. People using Google Maps will receive instant updates on electric buses, including their schedules, routes, and stops. It is one part of a wider plan by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to make public transit in Islamabad eco-friendly and easier for riders.
Google Maps includes real-time information about public buses.
Chairman CDA, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, has ordered officials to ensure that all electric buses are displayed on Google Maps, featuring colour-coded routes, bus stops, and estimated arrival times. As a result, commuting is expected to be easier, and there will be increased use of green transportation in the area.
Checking live bus locations will allow people to plan their routes from home, and wait times should be reduced.
Paying without direct contact and getting discounted travel rates
The CDA is updating the systems for transportation payments.Randhawa has directed Mr. Officialsa to allow bus riders to use debit and credit cards (including Visa and MasterCard) for ticket payments. Users will be able to travel smoothly and without cash once this initiative is in place.
Moreover, the CDA is working on special travel packages that offer customers the choice of purchasing weekly, monthly, and quarterly passes. Extra discounts will be available to students, daily wage workers, and senior citizens to ensure public transport is inclusive and affordable.
There are many riders, and the city continues to add new routes and buses.
Officials say the popularity of the electric buses in Islamabad is growing, and daily, around 95,000 people ride them. The CDA is set to expand its service offerings, introducing new services and enhancing the existing ones.
As of June 1, 2025, the new fare structure will be in effect.
The CDA has made adjustments to the fare structure for metro and electric buses in Islamabad, introducing digital update simultaneously. From June 1, 2025, traveling a single trip on the Orange, Green, Blue and Electric Feeder Lines will be charged Rs. 100.
| System | Route | Existing Fare (Rs.) | Revised Fare (Rs.) |
| Orange Line Metro Bus System | FAF to NS | 50 | 100 |
| NS to Airport | 90 | 100 | |
| Green Line Bus Feeder Route Service | PIMS to Bhara Kahu | 50 | 100 |
| Blue Line Bus Feeder Route Service | PIMS to Gulberg Green | 50 | 100 |
| Electric Vehicle Feeder Service | Islamabad Feeder Routes | 50 | 100 |
Note: The fare for the Rawalpindi–Islamabad (Red) Metro Bus remains unchanged.
How the Public Reacted and Observations
People on lower incomes are unhappy about the increase, but officials have added that the tough decision was necessary to ensure the best quality for passengers. Several passengers are requesting that the fare system be changed to one that charges lower fares for trips with shorter distances.
The city’s push to improve both digital and infrastructure systems is intended to make cities more sustainable and easier to move in. Passengers should use Google Maps to explore its new, useful travel features.
