Govt Waives Flood Victims’ Power Bills with Rs. 10.8B Package

October 4, 2025Zayn0

Federal cabinet approves Rs. 10.8 billion relief package to waive August 2025 electricity bills for flood victims in Punjab and KP.

The federal government has ratified a relief package of Rs. 10.8 billion to offer the much needed relief to households and businesses in Pakistan that have been affected by floods. The plan was passed by the federal cabinet as a reaction to the destructive floods of August and September 2025, that caused chaos in the state of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, devastating homes, farmland, and infrastructure.

Waiver for Domestic Consumers

The domestic electricity consumers living in officially declared flood-affected regions under the new package will see their electricity bills for August 2025 fully covered by the package. This action will alleviate the financial strain on families who have already incurred enormous losses as a result of the floods. In the case of households that have already paid their bills in August, it will be refunded in subsequent billing periods as a way of seeking fairness.

Relief for Businesses and Farmers

A full waiver will not be given to commercial, industrial and agricultural consumers in flood affected regions but they will enjoy the benefit of deferring payments. They will divide their August bills equally over seven months, between December 2025 and June 2026. This action will provide business and farmers with breathing room to restore operations, plant crops, and re-establish supply chains.

Funding the Package

In order to fund the relief, the federal cabinet has approved releasing instant cash of 10.8 billion as an advance subsidy on the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA-G). Among this he will use 10.4 billion on the domestic consumer waivers and 464 million on the offsetting deferred payments of the commercial and agricultural users.

As the government noted, this allocation is necessary to cushion consumers and the financial sustainability of the power sector.

Impact on Recovery and Reconstruction

The authorities have emphasized that the package is a vital initiative in assisting communities to resume their lives. As most families are homeless and unemployed, the financial aid offers immediate relief as the government still engages in the reconstruction efforts on a long term basis. The action is also an indication that the state is keen on assisting the vulnerable groups during the crisis.

With the assistance of the government in reducing the household and business electricity bills, it would be possible to release funds that could be used in the repair, recovery, and rebuilding of the affected districts most severely hit.

Conclusion: Relief for Flood-Hit Communities

The Rs. 10.8 billion package shows the federal government willingness to be by the side of the victims of floods in Punjab and KP. The initiative is a necessary relief since domestic bills are waived, business and farm payments are deferred, but the nation is going on the long path of recovery and resilience.
