The Administrator General Zakat has announced the Nisab for Zakat for the year 2025, which now stands at Rs. 179,689 for the Zakat year 1445-46 AH. This announcement was reported by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation & Social Safety, thus making this an important announcement across Pakistan for Muslims as they gear up for the Zakat obligations of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Zakat Nisab Explained
The Nisab is defined as the threshold amount that is terminal to the payment of Zakat. Accordingly, as per the new criteria, if the amount credited to an account in any manner concerning assets that qualify under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance of 1980 is less than the amount of Rs. 179,689 upon the first day of Ramzan-ul-Mubarak, no Zakat will be deducted at source. Such a line is important to many, as it stipulates who gives and who receives during the month of giving.
Deduction Date and Implementation
The first day of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak has been declared “Deduction date” which will essentially fall on the 1st or 2nd of March 2025, the exact date being subject to the sighting of the moon. Zakat at the above-noted rate shall be deducted on the Zakat on Saving Bank Accounts, Profit and Loss Sharing Accounts, and any other similar products with a credit balance of above Rs. 179,689. All Zakat Collection & Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) have been asked to comply with the directive and to make deductions accordingly.
Reporting and Compliance
In order to achieve transparency and accountability in the collections and distributions of Zakat funds, agencies must immediately send a copy of the Form CZ-08 (A&B) return to the Ministry after depositing the Zakat collected into the Central Zakat Account No. CZ-08 held with the State Bank of Pakistan.
Exemptions for Certain Customers
This means that, customers who have presented Zakat exemption certificates will not be deducted from their accounts. Such provisions allow those meeting the Nisab or having reasonable ground not to incur any valid Zakat obligations.
Increase in Nisab Amount
The newly determined Nisab is much higher than the previous year’s level of Rs. 135,179, depending, of course, upon varied economic reasons and cost of living adjustments. This increment intends to maintain the Zakat’s efficacy and intervening role in serving the overall needy in society.
As Ramadan approaches, this announcement will be highly beneficial in guiding many charitable donations for a spirit of allowing and aiding the needy.
