FBR has opened a PRAL Front Desk at LTO Karachi to help businesses resolve IRIS, e-filing, tax payment, sales tax, refund, and registration issues.
The Federal Board of Revenue has opened a new PRAL Front Desk at the Large Taxpayers Office in Karachi to provide direct technical support to the city’s business community. The facility became operational on June 5, 2026, following the directives of the Prime Minister and repeated requests from Karachi-based taxpayers and business representatives.
The desk has been set up as a dedicated facilitation centre where taxpayers can receive on-site help for major digital tax services. These include IRIS-related problems, e-filing issues, taxpayer registration, online tax payments, sales tax returns, refund processing, and other digital services linked with FBR systems.
For many businesses, especially companies dealing with regular sales tax filings and online compliance requirements, delays or technical errors in digital tax platforms can create serious operational problems. The new desk is aimed at reducing those difficulties by providing a specialized team at LTO Karachi instead of forcing taxpayers to depend only on remote complaint channels.
PRAL Team to Provide On-Site Tax Support
According to the FBR, the new facility is supported by a specialized team from Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited, commonly known as PRAL. PRAL plays an important role in managing and supporting several digital tax systems used by taxpayers across Pakistan.
The Karachi desk is being headed by a dedicated Chief of Inland Revenue Operations and has been equipped with the required IT infrastructure. This means that business taxpayers visiting the office can get technical assistance in a more focused environment, particularly when they face system errors or delays during online filing and payment processes.
The presence of a PRAL team inside the Large Taxpayers Office is important because many complaints from businesses relate to digital access, portal functionality, payment confirmation, registration updates, sales tax return submission, and refund-related processing. A dedicated help desk can make it easier to identify whether an issue is technical, procedural, or related to documentation.
Karachi Businesses to Benefit From Faster Resolution
Karachi is Pakistan’s largest commercial and industrial centre, and a major share of federal tax collection comes from businesses operating in the city. Because of this, even small delays in tax filing systems can affect a large number of companies, consultants, exporters, manufacturers, traders, and service providers.
The new one stop facilitation desk is expected to help taxpayers resolve problems more quickly and reduce the time spent on repeated visits, emails, and complaint follow-ups. Businesses will be able to seek guidance on digital tax matters at one location, which can improve compliance and reduce confusion around online processes.
The facility may also help tax consultants and corporate finance teams that handle multiple filings for different entities. When technical support is available directly at the LTO, businesses can receive clearer instructions and quicker updates on issues that otherwise delay monthly or annual compliance work.
Focus on Digital Tax Systems and Voluntary Compliance
FBR said the initiative is part of its wider effort to improve taxpayer facilitation, strengthen service delivery, and promote voluntary compliance. The tax authority has been increasing its reliance on digital systems, but digital transformation can only succeed when taxpayers are able to use those systems without unnecessary difficulty.
By offering support for IRIS, e-filing, registration, online payments, sales tax returns, refunds, and other services, the desk directly targets areas where taxpayers often need practical guidance. This is especially useful for businesses that want to remain compliant but face technical barriers during filing or payment.
A smoother digital tax experience can also improve trust between taxpayers and the revenue authority. When businesses feel that their technical issues are being resolved in a timely and transparent manner, they are more likely to use official systems properly and meet their tax obligations on time.
Step Toward a More Responsive Tax Administration
The establishment of the PRAL Front Desk reflects the government’s stated goal of building a more efficient, transparent, and responsive tax administration system. Instead of treating taxpayer support as a secondary function, the new desk gives it a visible place inside one of the country’s most important tax offices.
For Karachi’s business community, the facility could become a useful channel for resolving day-to-day problems related to digital taxation. However, its real impact will depend on how efficiently complaints are handled, how quickly technical faults are fixed, and whether taxpayers receive consistent support after the initial launch phase.
If implemented properly, the desk can help reduce friction between businesses and tax authorities while supporting the broader goal of increasing compliance through better service rather than pressure alone. For now, the launch gives Karachi taxpayers a dedicated point of contact for some of the most common digital tax issues they face.
