The Economic Coordination Committee has approved funds for bullet-proof vehicles and reward money for Pakistan’s U19 cricket team, while paying tribute to former finance minister Dr Shamshad Akhtar.
ECC meets under Finance Minister Aurangzeb
The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Federal Cabinet met at the Finance Division under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. The meeting brought together key members of the federal economic team, including ministers and senior officials from core economic and regulatory institutions.
Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Leghari, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik (who joined virtually), Federal Minister for Investment Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan were among those present. Federal secretaries and senior officers from concerned ministries and divisions also attended to brief the committee on the agenda items.
The ECC meeting is a central forum for taking important fiscal and economic decisions, especially those involving technical grants, subsidies, and urgent funding requirements across different sectors.
Tribute to Dr Shamshad Akhtar’s economic leadership
At the outset, the Committee offered Fateha for the departed soul of former Federal Minister for Finance and former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Dr Shamshad Akhtar. Members paid rich tribute to her for her distinguished service to Pakistan’s economy and public institutions.
Chairing the meeting, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted that Dr Akhtar’s contributions went far beyond her recent role as caretaker finance minister. He noted that many of the key institutional and tax policy reforms implemented later were conceptualised during her tenure, reflecting her forward-looking approach to economic governance.
The Committee observed that her leadership and vision would continue to positively shape Pakistan’s economic management in the years ahead, and extended heartfelt condolences to her family and colleagues.
Technical grant approved for bullet-proof vehicles
One of the core agenda items was a summary submitted by the Defence Division seeking approval for a Technical Supplementary Grant to procure bullet-proof vehicles. The ECC carefully reviewed the proposal, including the operational imperatives and security-related requirements presented by the division.
After discussion, the Committee approved the request, acknowledging that secure transport is essential for certain officials and operations in the current security environment. The grant is meant to ensure that personnel performing sensitive duties can move safely, which in turn supports continuity of governance and critical state functions.

Reward money for Pakistan U19 cricket team
In a separate decision, the ECC considered and approved a summary submitted by the Cabinet Division for the grant of a Technical Supplementary Grant to award reward money to the Pakistan Under-19 Men’s Cricket Team.
The grant aims to recognise the team’s outstanding performance and achievements on the international stage. The Committee agreed that such recognition helps celebrate sporting excellence and motivates young athletes who represent Pakistan with distinction.
Chairman Aurangzeb remarked that rewarding young sports talent not only honours their hard work but also sends a positive message to the wider youth population about the value of discipline, teamwork and national pride. Encouraging youth through incentives is seen as an investment in the country’s social capital.
Balancing security, recognition and fiscal discipline
