CDA Uses Drones to Recover 60 Kanals Land in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has intensified its anti-encroachment operations in Islamabad, deploying cutting-edge technology, including drone surveillance and satellite monitoring, to ensure long-term success. CDA was able to reclaim over 60 kanals of public land in Saidpur in this last drive. Further organized runs were also conducted on the GT Road, Srinagar Highway, Tarnol, and the Expressway to address illegal encroachments and constructions.

Tech-Driven Monitoring Strategy

CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa has proposed a new permanent enforcement model to safeguard vacant areas that have been reconquered through illegal reoccupation. It involves frequent drone flights to capture airplane shots and satellite monitoring using Google Earth. These instruments will provide an immediate understanding of what is happening and the real-time ability to take action in case of any new encroachment attempts, as well as the possibility to ensure CDA has a constant eye on the high-risk areas.

Permanent Protection and Legal Action

Randhawa first discussed the power of long-term policing and strategies. Offenders are being pursued through the legal system, with proceedings being accelerated to once again hold them accountable. CDA is finding means and ways to prevent this, including the legal fencing of land and zoning of land use, as well as increased on-the-ground patrolling. This mix of strategies is expected to prevent prospective offenders and provide a situation analysis in terms of the quality of urban space.

Areas Targeted in the Operation

The Saidpur operation was only one component of an initiative for the entire city. There were also teams working on the GT road, Srinagar Highway, Tarnol, and the Expressway, where unlawful buildings had collapsed, and the restoration of the common people’s right-of-way was underway. Such measures are within the larger mandate of CDA to ensure that the urban planning of the capital is orderly, accessible, and not illegally occupied.

Redevelopment and Public Benefit

The reclaimed land is not just lying fallow — CDA has an initiative to transform these areas into green and community-centric locales. The possible projects are green belts, recreation areas, and public parks. Priorities will be given to fortifying the green cover of Islamabad through the plantation of trees to alleviate the effects of urbanization on the environment. This aligns with the vision of transforming Islamabad into a model capital that is sustainable, inclusive, and livable for all residents.

Transforming Islamabad into a Model Capital

According to the chairman, Randhawa, the ultimate objective of such activities is to facilitate legalized development, coupled with the enhancement of the city’s environmental and social heritage. It is not only focused on the removal of encroachments but also on enhancing the value of the reclaimed land by constructing sustainable projects that serve the benefit of the common good. CDA aims to serve as a model city in the nation by incorporating technology, enacting legislative amendments, and implementing effective city planning.

Key Officials Involved

Senior officials took part in the enforcement meeting, including the Member Admin && Estate Talat Mahmood, Member Planning Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon and DG Building Control Faisal Naeem. Their planned actions make operations legally valid and effectively viable- a common front to combat the unlawful acquisition of land in the capital.
