CDA Introduces Smart Bus Tracking

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has rolled out real-time tracking for metro and electric buses on Google Maps through its newly integrated CDA Mobile App. This project aims to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of transportation, making it more convenient for passengers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Integration with Google Maps

Now passengers can check their bus routes, stops, and schedules on their smartphones. Live reporting will also provide accurate information about the arrival and departure of buses, allowing commuters to save time and plan their journeys more efficiently. It is alleged that the feature can motivate people to use more public transport, thereby reducing traffic jams and environmental pollution.

Coverage of the Electric Bus Network

The system encompasses both the electric bus feeders and the entire metro bus network. The launch of electric buses was announced in July 2024 and is serving 13 feeder routes, including Faizabad to NUST, PIMS to Bari Imam, Police Lines to D-12, and Abpara to Tramri. The services available at PIMS on weekends are also designed to provide tourists with pleasure, as well as destinations such as Daman-e-Koh and Shakarparian, which makes the mode of transport viable even for Leisure travel.

Metro Bus Routes Included

The real-time tracking system is also applicable to the Metro Bus Service, which has been gradually expanding over the years. These lines include the Red Line between Saddar and Muslim Secretariat, the Orange Line between Peshawar Mor and the Islamabad International Airport, the Green Line between Bhara Kahu and the PIMS, the Blue Line between Gulberg and Faizabad and the Purple Line between Taramri and Aabpara. The combination of these services is the mass transit system of Islamabad.

Enhanced Commuter Experience

The CDA Mobile App can be downloaded on mobile and PC through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. Passengers have access to an application that allows them to track real-time bus positions, find the nearest stops, and plan their travel. This technology is likely to alter the ordinary workday commute of thousands of residents.

Conclusion

By simply adding the feature of real-time bus tracking to Google Maps, CDA has taken a major step in modernizing Islamabad’s transport system. The problem is not only to improve the convenience of rush-hour rail commuters but also to promote sustainable mobility in the city and reduce vehicle dependency and air pollution in the capital.
