The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has taken decisive steps to upgrade Islamabad’s traffic management and urban infrastructure, following new directives from Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Cross-party heads meet at CDA Headquarters, and commands are given to have pelican crossings, advanced traffic lights, and several other modifications in the roads and other areas of the capital.
CDA Launches Urgent Traffic Management Upgrades
CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa has ordered officials to expedite the process by installing pelican crossings, i.e., pedestrian crossings with traffic signals, on major highways. Intelligent and modern traffic signals will also be fitted to enable efficient control of traffic and human movement in the city. The aim: safer roads and easier traffic flow to all inhabitants.
Modern Crossings and Smart Traffic Signals Planned
The city’s new traffic management initiative entails improving major corridors, including the Islamabad Expressway, Jinnah Avenue, Srinagar Highway, Margalla Road, Club Road, Park Road, and Faisal Avenue, among others. Traffic signals, lane markings, and the introduction of pelican crossings in vital locations are to be implemented in these thoroughfares. Modern sensor-based lights will be used to regulate traffic flow efficiently, especially during peak hours.
Comprehensive Road and Pedestrian Improvements
Other attempts are also being made in order to improve the current infrastructure. This covers the provision of new zebra crossings, clearing up kerbs, patching up busy routes, pedestrian bridges, and upgrading footpaths. Randhawa has suggested urgent repairs to the current overpasses and the construction of new bridges (particularly on Park Road) to enhance the safety and connectivity of foot traffic.
Beautification, Urban Forests, and Cultural Design
In addition to traffic systems, the CDA is placing a high priority on the beautification of the cities. It is projected to redesign major roundabouts and install artistic motifs representing all the provinces, decorative streetlights, and SMD displays, as well as plant additional urban forests to combat pollution. Medians, the sides of the roads, and green spaces will be landscaped and maintained as the city continues to transform itself.
A Vision for a Safer, Smarter Islamabad
The CDA also intends to accelerate these projects following the assistance of the finance department in the timely withholding of the development funds. The reconstruction of Rawal Chowk Interchange will incorporate elements of culture and intelligent features, setting a standard for future infrastructure development. Such widespread improvements represent a major step towards creating a safer, greener, and generally visually appealing capital city, Islamabad.
