Balochistan Introduces Electric Bikes for Women
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has announced a new program that provides working women with the opportunity to purchase electric bikes on easy installment plans. The program will help address some of the historical challenges faced by women living in urban centers, who often rely on insecure or unsafe transportation. The authorities emphasized that the scheme aims to empower women, facilitate their travel, and enhance the city’s transport system’s environmental sustainability.
Promoting Women’s Empowerment Through Mobility
At a top-tier gathering in the Secretariat of the Chief Minister, Bugti emphasized that his government’s policy is to empower women. We would prefer women to be independent and play their roles in the social and economic fields, he said. The government hopes that offering electric bikes under installment schemes will encourage more women to pursue jobs, education, and business opportunities without being limited by the fact that they cannot move easily. The relocation, too, is an attempt to accommodate women in the labor force and give them equal contributions to the economy’s growth.
Green Bus Scheme Expansion
In conjunction with the electric bike project, the government of Baluchistan has recently completed the acquisition of new electric buses in the Green Bus project. The buses would reach Karachi Port in mid-October and will be spread in the major cities of the province. The expanded fleet will provide commuters with safe, reliable, and environmentally friendly modes of public transportation. The Green Bus project is indicative of how the government envisions modernizing urban transportation and reducing carbon emissions.
Pink Bus Service for Women
Besides increasing the number of Green Buses, authorities also ensured the introduction of a special Pink Bus Service.
