Food authorities in Islamabad and Punjab destroyed 8,000 litres of fake milk in a joint raid on an illegal production unit ahead of Ramazan, seizing oils, ghee and machinery.

Joint Food Authority Raid Targets Fake Milk Network

Food authorities have cracked down on a major adulterated milk operation serving Islamabad and Rawalpindi, destroying 8,000 litres of fake milk in a single raid. The joint operation was conducted by the Punjab Food Authority and Islamabad Food Authority at a facility located in the I-10 Industrial Estate.

Officials said the raid was based on intelligence reports that an illegal setup was preparing fake milk ahead of the holy month of Ramazan, when demand for milk and dairy products usually rises sharply. The unit was reportedly supplying adulterated milk to various areas in the twin cities, putting public health at serious risk.

During the inspection, teams found large quantities of prepared liquid as well as raw materials used to manufacture the fake product. The entire batch of 8,000 litres of adulterated milk was confiscated on the spot and later destroyed under supervision.

Oils, Ghee and Powdered Milk Used to Produce Adulterated Milk

According to officials, the fake milk was being produced using a dangerous mix of non-dairy ingredients and low-quality inputs. The teams recovered 336 litres of oil, 240 kilograms of vanaspati ghee and 350 kilograms of powdered milk from the site.

The adulterated product was reportedly prepared by blending powdered milk and ghee with water and other additives to imitate the look and consistency of fresh milk. Such mixtures may appear normal to an unsuspecting customer but often lack proper nutritional value and can be unsafe for consumption, especially for children, the elderly and people with existing health conditions.

In addition to the raw materials, machinery and equipment used to process, mix and package the fake milk were also seized. Authorities said that shutting down the production line was essential to breaking the supply chain before the start of Ramazan.

Part of a Wider Drive Against Food Adulteration

Officials pointed out that this raid is not an isolated action but part of a wider campaign against food adulteration in the region. So far, around 28 joint operations have been carried out by the two food authorities, leading to the destruction of about 22,000 litres of adulterated milk.

They noted that as enforcement efforts in Punjab have become more stringent, some adulteration networks have tried to shift their activities toward Islamabad and the surrounding areas. This has made close coordination between the Punjab Food Authority and Islamabad Food Authority even more important.

By working together, the agencies aim to identify illegal production points early, block distribution routes and increase the cost and risk for those involved in food fraud. The recent raid in I-10 is being seen as a strong message that milk adulteration will not be tolerated.

Authorities Urge Citizens to Stay Vigilant During Ramazan

With Ramazan approaching, demand for milk, drinks and desserts is expected to surge. Food authorities have urged citizens to stay alert, buy from trusted sources and report any suspicious milk sales or unhygienic outlets.

Consumers have been reminded that they can lodge complaints or share information through the helpline 1223. Quick reporting can help inspectors reach problematic suppliers in time and prevent unsafe products from reaching household tables.

Officials say the ultimate goal of these operations is to ensure that families in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have access to safe, hygienic milk and dairy products throughout Ramazan and beyond. By tightening enforcement and involving the public, authorities hope to protect public health and discourage those who profit from adulteration at the expense of consumers.
